Higher quality usually means a larger file.

JPG cannot keep transparent pixels.

Your files never leave your device. Conversion happens in your browser, without uploads.

How to use PNG to JPG

  1. Choose a PNG file using the file picker, or drag one into the file area.
  2. Select JPEG quality and a background color for any transparent pixels.
  3. Convert the image, review the preview and file size, then download your JPG.

When to convert PNG to JPG

PNG stores images without lossy compression and supports transparency. It is a good fit for logos, diagrams, screenshots and artwork with sharp edges. JPG, also called JPEG, uses lossy compression and often produces smaller files for photographs and images with smooth changes in color.

Converting a photo saved as PNG can make it easier to attach to an email or use in a system that requires JPEG. It will not always reduce the file size: small graphics and images with flat colors may be better kept as PNG. Compare the downloaded result with your original before replacing anything.

Quality and transparency

The quality setting controls the browser’s JPEG encoder. A setting around 85–90% is a useful starting point for photographs. Lower values can reduce size but introduce visible blocks or blur around edges. Different browsers may produce different file sizes at the same setting.

JPG has no transparent pixels. This tool fills transparent areas with your chosen white or black background before encoding, including partially transparent edges. Pick the background that matches where the image will appear.

Limits and image information

This converter accepts one still PNG at a time, up to 20 MB, 16 million pixels and 8,192 pixels on either side. It checks the signature and dimensions before decoding to limit memory use. Corrupt files can still be rejected by the browser. Animated PNG files are rejected rather than silently discarding frames.

The output keeps the pixel dimensions. A canvas conversion creates a new image and does not preserve the original PNG’s metadata or embedded color profile. Browser color handling can affect the result; this tool is intended for ordinary image use rather than print production or color-critical archiving.

Common questions

Is my PNG uploaded anywhere?

No. The browser reads the selected file, draws it to a local canvas and creates a JPEG Blob. The download uses a temporary local URL. There is no conversion request or server-side storage.

Does conversion change my original file?

No. You download a separate JPG file. Keep the original PNG if you may need its transparency, lossless detail or metadata later.

Why is my JPG larger than the PNG?

JPEG is optimized for photographic detail. Flat-color graphics, text and very small images can be more efficient in PNG. Try a lower quality setting if the visual result is acceptable, or keep the PNG.
